The Payment Solution for Restaurateurs

An Industry withSpecial Challenges

Restaurateurs have a thousand things on their plate, 365 days a year. Financial aspects are undoubtedly part of it, but they are often accompanied by problems e.g.: How can liquidity bottlenecks be prevented? Or what does it take to make daily shopping easier for the team?

Together with METRO Financial Services, we implemented an entire package of solutions. In addition to a payment app and the marketing website, BY INTENTION also developed the branding; we created the packaging, designed the associated Mastercard® and supported the go-live with online and offline marketing measures.

Way more than aPayment Card

The vision was “to create a financial solution that enables every restaurateur to prosper financially.”

The new app should therefore make it as easy as possible for customers to manage their spending. This includes purchases, a good overview of direct debits and the use of team cards. The cashback function provides an additional financial incentive.

From User Research into App Store

Target group-appropriate content and the appropriate approach are best discussed with the future users of a product: So together with METRO, we conducted many personal interviews with restaurateurs in order to get to know their financial needs in detail.

The first prototypes of the mobile app soon emerged from these findings. These went back to the target group as interactive click dummies and were tested over several iterations. This allowed us to not only define the essential requirements in a core feature set, but also draws initial conclusions about the required UX and UI design.

In addition to customer needs, we also had to take the technical limitations of the banking partner and the strategic considerations of the METRO Group into account during product development.

New Branding in the established CI

Our customer’s wish regarding the new layout: METRO Financial Services should be perceived as a METRO product and thus benefit from the brand’s standing.

At the same time, the branding should also be based on current players in the fintech industry and impress with a modern and light appearance.

The design system also had to be applicable across all devices – both mobile for Android and iOS and browser-based for the website and the application form.

Ongoing Development

Even after the go-live of the app, we are entrusted with the further development of the product. We refine the design system and regularly create new features and prototypes.

In addition to the UX/UI design of the app, the design and technical development of the homepage to market the product were also in our hands.

Full Service on- and offline

Right from the start, we designed the concepts for various marketing activities of METRO Financial Services: digital measures such as newsletters and display ads, but also print products for magazines and journals, in-store measures and large-scale out-of-home formats, as well as short animated films and trade fair materials.

Last but not least, our full-service approach also included the design and packaging of the physical Mastercard®.
